Dear guests of the ball, dear contributors, dear friends!

Organizing a science ball means acting based on evidence. You can guess what I’m getting at: the legal and medical evidence speaks against holding the next Vienna Science Ball in January 2021. That is why we have to cancel the ball for this season.

I know from many e-mails, conversations, pre-registrations, reservations and bookings how much you regret this cancellation. But there are two messages that give us hope:

1) The ball has been a lavish and amusing festival in recent years. And it was a specifically Viennese method of science communication. We want to fulfill this task again this season: Starting mid-November, ball ambassadors from previous years, together with newly selected colleagues, will tell in a concise and popular way how their research contributes to overcome the two great challenges of our time: Corona and climate. On our platforms and channels, we will offer a forum for members and friends of the scientific community–and thus document the excellence, openness and diversity with which they work in Vienna on the major issues of the day.

2) We have a new date! We plan to celebrate the 7th Vienna Science Ball on January 29, 2022 in Vienna Town Hall. You can send reservations for boxes and honorary tables to ball@wissenschaftsball.at as of now, as well as your registration for the info mail at the beginning of advance ticket sales in November 2021.

We’ll see you online again from November 2020 here and with #SciBall on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram – and then in January 2022 in the town hall.

Untill then: stay safe and wash your hands!

With kind regards

Oliver Lehmann
